Lawyer Harasawa Wins Yokohama Mayoral Race, Defeating Former Mayor Accused of Abusing Power

Lawyer Atsumi Harasawa has won Sunday's mayoral election in the Japanese city of Yokohama, according to the announced results. Harasawa was backed by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) along with several other parties.

In this race, Harasawa defeated six other candidates, including a former mayor who resigned after being accused of verbally abusing subordinates.

Harasawa's victory is seen as a favorable result for the ruling coalition led by the LDP, given Yokohama's economically and administratively important role in Japan.
