After months of anticipation, the anime adaptation of the manga Daemons of the Shadow Realm (original title: Yomi no Tsugai) by Hiromu Arakawa – creator of Fullmetal Alchemist – has officially been scheduled for an April 2026 release. Originally serialized in Monthly Shonen Gangan, the work will be adapted for television, marking the first time the story of the shadow realm and its demonic deities has been brought to animation.
The main cast has been revealed, including central characters from the source material such as Yuru, Asa, and mysterious entities from the 'Shadow Kingdom.' The plot follows twin siblings caught in a war between supernatural forces, where 'Demons' and 'Guardian Deities' clash. The series is expected to run for about 24 episodes, airing on Tokyo MX and major streaming platforms in Japan.
The director is Yoshiaki Kawajiri (known for Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D), with scripts by Yūko Kakihara. Studio Bones, which produced Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, is handling animation. The soundtrack will be composed by Yuki Hayashi, promising a dark, dramatic atmosphere fitting the manga's world.
The anime community is eagerly awaiting the premiere, especially after the massive success of Fullmetal Alchemist. Early teaser images showcase Arakawa's distinctive art style along with settings of dense forests, ancient shrines, and mysterious creatures. Detailed broadcast schedules and advance screening information will be announced in late 2025.
