The United Nations on November 30 expressed concern over Israel's demolition of homes and infrastructure in Lebanese territory, stating that such actions violate the principles of international law and could further complicate an already tense situation.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Israeli forces have carried out multiple demolitions in border areas of southern Lebanon since the beginning of this year. These demolitions have largely targeted homes, schools, medical facilities, and other civilian structures, forcing dozens of families to leave their residences and be displaced.
Speaking at a press briefing, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, emphasized: “We call on Israel to strictly adhere to international law, especially provisions concerning the protection of civilians and civilian property. The demolition of people's homes must be considered with great caution, to avoid causing further suffering to those who have already endured so much loss.”
These demolition activities occur amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, particularly along the border region. The UN has repeatedly called on all parties to exercise restraint, refrain from unilateral actions that could escalate conflict, and urged them to respect existing agreements and maintain dialogue to stabilize the situation.
