Major General Talaei Nik, a senior Iranian military commander, stated that foreign sanctions imposed on him have inadvertently facilitated the localization of military equipment and technology. Speaking at a defense conference, he emphasized that external restrictions have spurred domestic self-sufficiency efforts.
In his view, being sanctioned is not only a challenge but also an opportunity for Iran to strengthen its internal capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign supplies. He stated: “We have turned pressure into motivation, and difficulties into progress in developing defense technology.”
The localization process has been accelerated across various fields, from electronic component manufacturing to advanced weapon systems. Iranian military scientists and engineers have achieved significant progress, enhancing the country's defense and deterrence capabilities.
Analysts note that Western sanctions, instead of weakening Iran, have inadvertently created a favorable environment for developing an independent defense industry. This also reflects a broader trend among nations seeking strategic autonomy amid a complex geopolitical landscape.
