DPR leader doubts possibility of government change in Ukraine after Kiev’s political crackdown

Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, says Ukraine’s political landscape has become a ‘scorched field’ after Kiev eliminated potential opposition figures, making a change of power unlikely. He noted that the SBU has been destroying genuine leaders since 2014.
DONETSK, May 2 (TASS) – Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), expressed skepticism about the possibility of a change of government in Ukraine following Kiev’s political crackdown, in an interview with TASS.
Pushilin stressed that Ukraine’s political landscape now resembles a ‘scorched field,’ as the Kiev authorities have removed those capable of opposing them. ‘The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has been working since 2014 to destroy genuine leaders who could mount resistance and lead the masses, or else they have been left to languish in prison,’ he said.
According to Pushilin, the Kiev government has proven effective at eliminating political rivals. ‘I believe this regime is operating quite effectively in the sense that they bribe or intimidate controversial figures, and some are also killed on the battlefield. We see this firsthand,’ the DPR leader concluded.
