Darak village, a standout destination in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province, has taken another step toward being recognized by UNESCO as a global tourism village. The news was reported by Iranian media on December 13, 2024.
With pristine natural scenery including long beaches, mangrove forests, and coastal cliffs, Darak attracts visitors for its natural beauty and biodiversity. The village is also known for its historical and cultural sites, such as traditional markets and old houses, along with local festivals.
According to local authorities, Darak has met UNESCO's strict criteria for sustainable tourism management, heritage preservation, and socio-economic development. The review process is expected to be completed in the coming months, and if recognized, Darak would become Iran's second global tourism village, after Abyaneh.
This milestone not only enhances Iran's tourism image but also opens economic development opportunities for the local community, particularly through eco-tourism and cultural tourism.
