Reigning F1 champion Lando Norris has signed a new contract with McLaren, extending his stay through 2030. The deal comes after consecutive wins in Hungary and the Netherlands, boosting his title defense hopes.
Lando Norris, the reigning Formula 1 (F1) champion, has committed his long-term future to McLaren after signing a contract extension that keeps him at the team until 2030.
The new deal was announced on Saturday, less than a week after Norris secured his second consecutive victory at the Dutch Grand Prix, reigniting hopes of a successful title defense for the British driver. McLaren said the contract also includes an option for additional years beyond 2030.
Last season, Norris, 26, delivered McLaren its first drivers' championship since Lewis Hamilton claimed the title in 2008. He joined McLaren's young driver program at age 17 and made his F1 debut two years later, in 2019.
"McLaren is my home, and I'm delighted to sign a new deal to stay with the team at least through 2030," Norris said in a team statement. "When I started this journey nine years ago, my goal was clear: to bring McLaren back to the front of the grid and win a championship. We achieved that, but we want more—we want to keep winning, and we know we have what it takes to do so."
Norris currently sits fourth in this year's standings, 83 points behind Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli with 11 races remaining. His McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, signed an extension early in the 2025 season, which is understood to run through at least 2028.
McLaren won the constructors' titles in 2024 and 2025, ending a drought that dated back to 1998. However, the team got off to a slow start this season as it struggled to adapt to new regulations. Norris's comeback wins in Hungary and the Netherlands show the race is still wide open.
"Lando has been an integral part of McLaren's journey and success over the past nine years, and we are thrilled to continue working with him," team principal Andrea Stella said. "He is an exceptional driver, combining natural speed with maturity, consistency, and a strong commitment to McLaren, but above all, he is a wonderful person, respected by everyone in the team."
Stella added: "With Lando and Oscar, we know we can count on not only one of the strongest driver pairings but also one of the most cohesive and united line-ups in Formula 1."
Additionally, Norris will be gifted the MCL39 car he used to win his first F1 title last year as a token of appreciation.
