Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract with Manchester United until 2031, ending speculation about his future. The 21-year-old England midfielder, an academy product since 2014, scored in the 2024 FA Cup final and played in the Euro 2024 final. Football director Jason Wilcox called him one of the world's most naturally gifted young talents.
Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until 2031. The deal ends months of uncertainty over the 21-year-old's future.
Mainoo joined the Manchester United academy in 2014 and has made 98 first-team appearances. He scored the decisive goal in the 2024 FA Cup final and also played for England in the Euro 2024 final.
“Manchester United has always been my home. This special club means everything to my family,” Mainoo said. “I grew up in this atmosphere and I am fully aware of the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.”
Earlier, Mainoo lost his starting spot under former coach Ruben Amorim, sparking talk he might leave Old Trafford. However, Michael Carrick – reportedly set to become permanent head coach in the summer – immediately restored him to the lineup upon being appointed interim coach.
Football director Jason Wilcox hailed Mainoo as one of the “most naturally gifted young talents in the world.” “His technical ability, dedicated professionalism, and humble character make him an ideal role model for young players,” Wilcox said.
Wilcox added: “We believe Mainoo will develop into one of the world's best players and play a key role as Manchester United's squad pursues major trophies.”
