Israel has carried out new strikes on Lebanon, further heightening tensions in the region. The airstrikes and artillery fire targeted several areas across Lebanon, though no immediate casualties were reported.
At the same time, Palestinians around the world observed the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, or “Catastrophe” — the day they lost their homes and were forced into mass exile when the state of Israel was established in 1948.
Protests and memorial ceremonies took place in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and beyond. Palestinians expressed grief over their losses and renewed demands for the right to return to their homeland.
The United Nations estimates some 5.6 million registered Palestinian refugees fled or were expelled from their homes during the 1948 war.
Israel confirmed its military operations in Lebanon were aimed at Hezbollah forces, although details on civilian impact have not been disclosed.
The events have drawn international attention, with many calls for peace and a two-state solution to resolve the enduring Middle East conflict.
