Despite a ceasefire in effect since April 17, Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire killed 41 people and wounded 89 others in southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported the toll, warning further escalation could drive casualties higher.
Lebanon's Health Ministry reported on May 2 that at least 41 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling targeting areas in southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours. The attacks occurred despite a ceasefire that had been in effect since April 17. Additionally, 89 other Lebanese nationals were wounded.
According to the ministry's statement posted on social media platform X, the total civilian casualties since Israel escalated its military operations on March 2 have risen to 2,659 dead and 8,183 wounded. The Lebanese Health Ministry warned that the casualty count is likely to keep climbing as Israel continues to strike localities where Hezbollah forces maintain bases.
