According to Lebanese state media, an Israeli airstrike killed 7 people and wounded 3 others in the country's south, as Israel intensified its attacks on multiple towns and villages overnight.
Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) said the airstrike occurred early Saturday, hitting a house in the outskirts of Ansar in the Nabatieh district, completely destroying the building.
Rescue teams from the Islamic Message Scouts Association, the Islamic Health Authority, and Lebanon's Civil Defense forces worked to clear the rubble and transport the dead and wounded to hospitals in Nabatieh, according to NNA.
This was the deadliest Israeli attack in Lebanon since agreements reached in June significantly reduced conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Israeli airstrikes were widespread across southern Lebanon, including attacks on the Ali al-Taher hillside near Nabatieh al-Fawqa, an area close to a teacher training center and the Husseini club. The valley between Ansar and Zarariyeh was also hit, which NNA noted was the first attack to go deep into this area since the ceasefire two months ago.
Near the border, Israeli forces demolished several homes in Bint Jbeil and fired heavy machine guns toward houses along the Kounine-Saf al-Hawa road. Another airstrike targeted the al-Mashaa neighborhood in al-Mansouri before midnight.
Violence has decreased since the United States and Iran reached a memorandum of understanding in June, followed by a US-brokered framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, but Israeli attacks and demolitions continue in the south.
The framework agreement calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah, a gradual Israeli withdrawal, and the deployment of the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon.
On Friday, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem criticized the Lebanese government for its implementation of the framework agreement, accusing it of pressuring the army while Israel continues its attacks.
"How can you accept this continuous humiliation of the Lebanese army, leaving it to endure Israeli bombs and pressure, instead of protecting it?" he said.
