Amid blockades imposed due to conflict and severe drought caused by climate change, Iran has implemented various measures to ensure food supply for its population. According to Iranian officials, food security has been preserved through the establishment of strategic reserves and the adoption of water-saving agricultural techniques.
Iran's Ministry of Agriculture reported that despite reduced yields of some crops due to drought, the country has maintained wheat and rice reserves sufficient for several months. The food distribution system is tightly managed, prioritizing areas most affected by blockades and economic hardship.
The Iranian government has also ramped up investment in modern irrigation technology and drought-resistant crop varieties to reduce dependence on natural water sources. In addition, support programs for farmers and price controls have helped stabilize the domestic market, curbing commodity shortages.
However, international experts note that these measures are only temporary, and Iran needs to continue structural agricultural reforms to address long-term challenges, particularly the depletion of water resources.
