Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized on Monday that consolidating and expanding strategic relations with China is a priority in Tehran's foreign policy. Speaking during a virtual meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Araghchi stated that the two nations will continue close coordination on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual concern.
Iran's top diplomat highlighted that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is progressing positively, expressing a desire to further advance infrastructure and energy projects. In response, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed that Beijing values its comprehensive strategic partnership with Tehran and is ready to enhance practical cooperation across various sectors, contributing to regional peace and stability.
The two countries' diplomats also discussed the Middle East situation, including pressing issues such as Iran's nuclear program and the conflict in Gaza. Both sides agreed to support political solutions, promote dialogue, and reduce tensions, while opposing unilateral sanctions that violate international law.
The phone call took place amid deepening Iran-China ties, especially following Tehran's official accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS group of emerging economies, with Beijing's support. Analysts suggest that the agreement to strengthen strategic cooperation at this sensitive time is significant for rebalancing the regional order.
