Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Tehran on February 24, during the Pakistani leader's official visit to Iran. At the meeting, Pezeshkian stressed that the interests of Iran and Pakistan are closely intertwined, and the two countries need to strengthen cooperation across various fields.
According to a statement from the Iranian President's Office, Pezeshkian said that cooperation between the two nations not only benefits their peoples but also helps bolster peace and stability in the region. He also highlighted the vast potential of both countries in trade, energy, and transportation, calling for the promotion of bilateral economic ties.
For his part, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Iran's initiatives, emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and security. He also expressed a desire to strengthen connectivity between the two countries, particularly in road and rail infrastructure, to facilitate commerce.
The two sides agreed to continue high-level exchanges, enhance cooperation against terrorism and cross-border crimes, and boost bilateral trade toward a future target of $10 billion. The visit comes amid positive developments in relations between the two countries following a series of recent meetings and exchanges between senior officials.
