Today in Baghdad, Iran's Justice Minister and his Iraqi counterpart co-chaired a high-level session to advance bilateral judicial relations. The two sides agreed to strengthen coordination in areas such as criminal extradition, mutual legal assistance in criminal and civil cases, and the exchange of information, legal records, and expertise in handling cross-border cases.
Speaking at the meeting, Iran's Justice Minister underscored the importance of consolidating a shared legal framework to ease judicial procedures for citizens of both countries, while also contributing to the fight against organized crime and money laundering. For its part, the Iraqi side expressed readiness to enhance existing coordination mechanisms and to sign additional agreements soon to deepen and make cooperation more effective.
The two sides also agreed to set up a joint working group to review and update previously signed bilateral judicial agreements, in line with national laws and international practices. Observers regard this visit as a significant step toward a more substantive phase of judicial cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.
