On October 22, 2024, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered a speech highlighting the historic ties between Iran and Azerbaijan on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.
Speaking at the event, Araghchi stated that the two countries share a long-standing friendship and cooperation based on common cultural, historical, and religious foundations. He affirmed that Iran values its relationship with Azerbaijan and aims to enhance strategic partnerships in various fields, including economy, trade, energy, and transportation.
Iran's Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of transport corridors and energy cooperation in the region, noting these as key factors in strengthening connectivity between the two nations and the broader South Caucasus region.
Notably, Araghchi expressed hope that communication and dialogue channels between the two countries would continue to be strengthened to address shared challenges and bring prosperity to their peoples.
Azerbaijan's Independence Day marks the country's restoration of independence in 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. This year's event holds special significance as Iran-Azerbaijan relations have seen a positive upturn following a period of frozen ties.
