Iran has commemorated the late Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, who was described as a highly capable and skilled security official. Larijani, 66, died in a helicopter crash on May 19 alongside President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the mountainous northwestern region of the country.
During the memorial ceremony, Iranian officials highlighted Larijani's significant role in coordinating foreign policy and national security. He served as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council for many years and was among the influential figures shaping Tehran's strategic decisions.
Analysts believe Larijani's death leaves a major void in Iran's security apparatus, especially as the country faces regional challenges and international negotiations. The ceremony was held in a solemn atmosphere, attended by a large number of citizens and officials.
Iran has described the May 19 helicopter crash as a national tragedy. Since then, the new administration led by acting President Mohammad Mokhber has worked to stabilize the situation and continue previous policies.
