Iran has unveiled plans to launch 37 new mining projects with a total investment of $1.4 billion, as the country pushes to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on oil revenues.
According to Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, the projects span the mining value chain, including iron ore, copper, and other industrial minerals. Investment will focus on provinces with significant mineral reserves, such as Kerman, Yazd, and Isfahan.
This is part of Iran's broader strategy to develop its mining sector, aiming to increase mineral extraction and processing capacity, create jobs, and promote non-oil exports. The government hopes these projects will contribute to economic growth amid ongoing international sanctions.
The mining industry already plays a vital role in Iran's economy, accounting for a notable share of non-oil GDP. The new projects are expected to modernize mining infrastructure, adopt advanced technologies, and improve production efficiency.
Iranian officials said the projects will be implemented over several years, with phased completion plans. These initiatives are seen as a strategic move to leverage the country's abundant mineral resources.
