According to Iran's Ministry of Agriculture, more than 1,900 agricultural projects will be inaugurated nationwide during Government Week (August 24-30). These projects include water infrastructure, livestock farming, crop cultivation, agro-processing, and rural infrastructure works.
Iran's Deputy Agriculture Minister Mohammad Ali Nikbakht said the total investment for these projects exceeds 150,000 billion rials (about $550 million at the official exchange rate), creating jobs for around 12,000 local residents.
Among them, 1,470 projects are related to water and land management, including modern irrigation systems, canals, and small dams. Additionally, there are 370 livestock and veterinary projects, 100 crop farming and plant protection projects, along with other ventures in agro-processing and rural infrastructure.
Nikbakht emphasized that inaugurating these projects is part of a national strategy to bolster food security, enhance water efficiency in agriculture, and improve farmers' livelihoods, especially in arid and semi-arid regions.
Key projects inaugurated in this period include a crop variety research and development center in Fars province, a drip irrigation system covering 2,000 hectares in Khuzestan province, and a 30-ton-per-hour livestock feed processing plant in Razavi Khorasan province.
According to statistics, over the past five years, Iran has invested more than 800,000 billion rials (about $2.9 billion) in agricultural development, contributing to an average annual growth of 5.2% in the country's food production.
