Iran has officially urged the World Health Organization to expedite the delivery of essential medical equipment to the country, as sanctions from the United States and Israel continue to exert severe pressure on its healthcare system.
The move comes as Tehran faces shortages of medicines, medical supplies, and diagnostic and treatment equipment, all severely impacted by international sanctions. Iran stresses that access to medical necessities is a fundamental right of its people and must be protected regardless of political tensions.
According to sources, Iran has asked the WHO to intervene to ensure that shipments of drugs and medical equipment are not blocked due to the sanctions policies of Washington and Tel Aviv. Iran's representative to the WHO argues that these sanctions violate international law and threaten the lives of millions of Iranians, especially amid the pandemic and chronic diseases.
The WHO has not yet formally responded to Iran's request, but observers suggest the organization may consider appealing for humanitarian sanctions relief to support Iran's health system while continuing to promote dialogue among all parties.
