Iran on June 12 called for Israel to be expelled from the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), arguing that Israel's participation in the forum is incompatible with the organization's goals and principles.
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said CICA was established to promote peace, security and cooperation in Asia, while Israel "has violated international law and United Nations resolutions," accusing Israel of carrying out military actions that destabilize the region.
According to Kanaani, Iran has asked CICA member states to review Israel's membership status and supports removing Israel from the forum. He stressed that Israel's presence "does nothing to serve the goal of confidence-building and regional cooperation."
CICA is an intergovernmental forum bringing together Asian nations to strengthen dialogue and security cooperation. Israel is one of CICA's observers. There has been no official response so far from Israel or the CICA secretariat regarding Iran's proposal.
