On March 14, Tehran officially urged the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to intervene and evacuate severely injured detained pilots in Iran to ensure they receive emergency medical care.
According to a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry, the country is ready to cooperate with the ICRC in transferring the pilots to appropriate treatment facilities, in line with humanitarian principles and international conventions. The move comes amid repeated calls from international organizations for health checks and reviews of detention conditions for foreign national pilots held in Iran.
Iranian officials stressed that the evacuation is purely humanitarian and unrelated to any political negotiations. The ICRC has not yet issued an official response to the proposal.
Earlier, multiple international reports indicated that some detained pilots in Iran are in serious health conditions requiring specialized medical attention. Tehran's latest request is seen as a rare step to ease international pressure regarding this humanitarian issue.
