NEW DELHI – Iran's foreign minister on Thursday urged BRICS nations to condemn what he called U.S. and Israeli violations of international law, as diplomats from the emerging economies gathered in Delhi under the shadow of war in the Middle East.
Speaking at the meeting, Iran's top diplomat stressed that U.S. and Israeli military actions in the region have caused numerous civilian casualties and violated fundamental principles of international law. He called on BRICS, as a bloc of major economies, to raise a strong voice against these acts.
In a related development, an Indian-flagged vessel was sunk in the Red Sea region on the same day, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. The incident heightens tensions in an already volatile area roiled by the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza and confrontations between Iran and Israel.
The BRICS meeting in New Delhi is taking place against a backdrop of global scrutiny of Middle Eastern developments, where many member states maintain complex ties with Iran, Israel, and the United States.
