Inter Milan secured their 21st Serie A title with a 2-0 win over Parma at the San Siro, moving 12 points clear of Napoli with three games remaining. Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were the scorers as the Nerazzurri bounced back from last season's heartbreak.
Thousands of Inter Milan fans flooded the streets and Piazza del Duomo to celebrate the club's 21st Serie A title moments after the final whistle of a 2-0 victory over Parma at the San Siro on Sunday evening (3/5/2026). Flares and fireworks lit up the Milan night sky.
Marcus Thuram opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time before Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed the win in the 80th minute. With 82 points, Inter now sit 12 points clear of second-placed Napoli — an insurmountable gap with just three matchdays left. Napoli had been held to a 0-0 draw by Como the previous day.
In the first half, Inter controlled possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances. In the 25th minute, Nicolo Barella's close-range shot hit the crossbar and ricocheted off the back of Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, who managed to push the ball away from the goal line. In stoppage time, Piotr Zielinski slipped a through-ball for Thuram to race onto and slot home, sparking jubilation among the home fans.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Inter maintained dominance but wasted opportunities to double their lead. Federico Dimarco delivered a pinpoint cross for Denzel Dumfries in the dying minutes, but the Dutch defender failed to control it properly, sending his shot sailing over the bar. It was not until the 80th minute that Mkhitaryan finally made the game safe, tapping in from close range after Lautaro Martinez's low cross, igniting celebrations across the San Siro stands.
This triumph carries special significance for Inter after last season's heartbreak: losing the Serie A title to Napoli on the final day and suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. "We are very happy. It was not easy to start again after a season when we lost everything in the dying minutes of every competition, but today I am delighted with this achievement," said captain Lautaro Martinez.
The atmosphere in Milan stood in stark contrast to a year ago, when fans endured the agony of losing the Scudetto to Napoli on the final day and then falling short in the Champions League final. "There are no words to describe this. No matter what the haters said all season, Inter will always be Inter," an emotional fan named Fabio said. Many supporters were seen crying during the celebrations.
The party is expected to continue ahead of the Coppa Italia final on 13 May, where Inter will face Lazio with the chance to complete a domestic double.
