Iranian authorities have reported that over one million Arbaeen pilgrims have re-entered the country through the southwestern province of Khuzestan after fulfilling their religious rites in Iraq.
Khuzestan serves as one of the primary gateways for the massive influx of pilgrims heading to Karbala, Iraq, to observe Arbaeen—the solemn commemoration marking 40 days since the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
Local officials stated that security forces have been deployed at border crossings and along major routes to facilitate a safe and smooth return for all pilgrims.
The movement of more than one million people through Khuzestan underscores the large scale of this year’s pilgrimage season, while also demonstrating the effective organization and coordination by authorities from both nations in ensuring security and services for attendees.
Previously, Iranian officials had established supply stations, medical facilities, and rapid-response teams along the border to accommodate the needs of the vast number of pilgrims during this significant observance.
