The 40th International Islamic Unity Conference opened this morning in Tehran, the capital of Iran. The event is organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST), bringing together a large number of scholars, religious leaders, politicians, and representatives of Islamic organizations from around the globe.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of unity among Islamic nations in the context of the complex challenges facing the Islamic world. He called on Islamic countries to strengthen cooperation to protect their common interests and urged collective action to end ongoing conflicts and violence in the region.
According to the organizers, this year's conference is themed “Islamic Unity and Contemporary Challenges”, focusing on discussions about strengthening fraternity between Islamic sects (Shia and Sunni); solutions to end conflicts and humanitarian crises in Palestine, Lebanon, and other regions; mechanisms to counter extremism and Islamophobia; and enhancing the role of youth and Islamic intellectuals in social development.
Within the two-day conference, various thematic sessions, scientific panels, and exhibitions showcasing cultural and scientific achievements of the Islamic world will also be held. This is an important annual forum, initiated in 1987, to promote closeness and mutual understanding among different schools of thought within the global Islamic community.
