Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu has made clear his and his players' goal is to top Group F at the 2026 World Cup ahead of a crucial clash with Sweden on Thursday local time.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Moriyasu stressed his respect for the opponent, especially Sweden head coach Graham Potter. He described Potter as an excellent tactician who has built a scientific style of play and turned Sweden into a difficult team to beat.
"We want to finish the group stage in first place," Moriyasu said. "That means we have to beat Sweden, a well-organized team under coach Potter. I really admire the way he runs the team."
The match between Japan and Sweden is seen as pivotal in the race to advance from Group F. Japan are currently in fine form and are determined to take all three points against the European side.
