Hantavirus is a group of dangerous viruses transmitted from rodents to humans. In the latest episode of The Take, experts discuss the true extent of the threat posed by this virus.
Hantavirus can cause two main syndromes: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), with a high fatality rate of 38-50% for HPS.
However, the virus does not easily spread from person to person; it is primarily transmitted through contact with the saliva, urine, or feces of infected rats. Preventive measures include controlling rat populations in homes and living environments, especially in rural areas.
Though it sounds alarming, experts emphasize that the risk of infection for the general public is low if proper hygiene and rodent control measures are in place. Watch more on YouTube.
