South Korea Voices Strong Protest After Takaichi Sends Offering to Yasukuni Shrine

South Korea has spoken out in strong opposition after Takaichi sent an offering to Japan's Yasukuni Shrine, according to reports from Seoul. The move is seen as deeply disappointing to South Korea, which has long regarded Yasukuni as a symbol of Japan's militarist past.

Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo honors Japanese soldiers killed in wars, including figures regarded as senior war criminals. Offerings made there have repeatedly stirred diplomatic tensions between Japan and both South Korea and China.

South Korean officials said they will closely monitor developments and maintain a consistent stance on historical issues, while not yet detailing any follow-up measures.
