G7 leaders have agreed to tighten sanctions targeting Russia's oil and gas sector, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The statement says the G7 will continue to intensify economic pressure on Russia to limit its energy revenues, which are seen as the financial lifeline for the country's military operations.
Specific measures will include expanding the sanctions list against companies and individuals linked to oil and gas exports, as well as strengthening enforcement of the price cap on Russian crude oil.
The move comes as Western nations seek to reduce their dependence on Russian energy and further tighten sanctions imposed since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine.
The G7 affirmed it would coordinate closely with international partners to ensure the effectiveness of the sanctions while minimizing negative impacts on global energy markets.
