Munetaka Murakami of the Chicago White Sox made history on Wednesday, hitting his 20th home run of the Major League Baseball season in a 15-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
The blast marked Murakami’s third consecutive game with a home run. He is now only the second Japanese rookie to reach the 20-homer milestone, after Shohei Ohtani.
Since debuting with the White Sox, Murakami has put together an impressive rookie campaign, leading all Japanese rookies in runs scored. His 20th homer came in the fifth inning and padded the team's lead.
Manager Pedro Grifol praised Murakami, saying, “He is a special talent. It's not just the power — Murakami has the technique and the focus. We are very proud of him.”
Given his current form, Murakami is expected to continue breaking records in the future.
