Russian Ambassador to North Macedonia: Local Officials Avoid Contact
TASS
New Russian Ambassador to North Macedonia, Dmitry Zykov, said most local officials avoid contact with Russian diplomats since 2022. Proposals to restore bilateral cooperation go unanswered, though some officials maintain working ties.
In his first interview with TASS news agency on May 2, new Russian Ambassador to North Macedonia, Dmitry Zykov, said the majority of local officials avoid contact with Russian diplomats, leaving many proposals to restore bilateral cooperation unanswered.
Zykov, who has just presented his credentials to President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Foreign Minister Timco Mucunski, also met with Vice Prime Minister for Inter-Community Relations Ivan Stoilkovic. According to the Russian diplomat, some officials still maintain working contacts with the embassy and assist in resolving specific issues.
However, Zykov noted that since 2022, communication with Russian diplomats has been minimal. "Unlike our colleagues in many other countries, we do not face pressure, open rudeness, attacks on embassy security, or hostile prejudice. But the majority of local officials, including at the Foreign Ministry, avoid contact, and proposals to restore bilateral cooperation also go unanswered," the diplomat said.
