In a recent interview with a Russian news agency, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, strongly criticized Western countries for applying double standards in the field of sports.
According to the Iranian diplomat, many Western nations frequently use sports as a political tool while condemning other countries for doing the same. Jalali emphasized that this not only violates the fundamental principles of sports but also erodes the spirit of sportsmanship and inherent fairness.
The ambassador cited instances where Iranian teams and athletes are regularly denied visas or face difficulties when participating in international tournaments held in the West, yet these same Western countries do not apply similar measures to other nations. He argued that this behavior reflects a lack of consistency and hypocrisy on the part of Western countries.
Jalali’s comments come amid escalating political tensions between Iran and the West, which have affected many sectors, including sports. The ambassador affirmed that Iran will continue to fight for fairness and equality in sports, calling on international sports organizations to prevent political issues from interfering with sporting activities.
