The Turkey-Japan University of Science and Technology officially opened on Monday in Ankara, marking the start of actual implementation of a cooperation project the two countries agreed on in 2013.
According to information released, the university has begun admitting students and teaching undergraduate programs in the field of engineering. It is also running doctoral programs focused on two areas: artificial intelligence and earthquake science.
The establishment of the university is the result of a cooperation agreement reached by Turkey and Japan more than a decade ago, in 2013. After a period of preparation, the institution has now begun operations, opening a channel for joint human resource training between the two countries.
The chosen fields of study reflect areas of shared interest. Earthquake science holds particular significance for both Turkey and Japan, as both countries regularly face seismic risk, while artificial intelligence is a technology sector many nations are prioritizing for development.
