Russian Envoy Says German Chancellor Merz Will Face Criticism Until He Corrects Mistakes or Resigns
TASS
Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev has warned that accusations against German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will continue until he learns to correct his mistakes or steps down. The statement follows the Pentagon's announcement that it will withdraw 5,000 US troops from Germany. Dmitriev's comments came after Merz criticized Washington's approach to Iran, prompting a sharp response from US President Donald Trump.
MOSCOW, May 2 (TASS) — Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign states and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that accusations against German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will intensify until he either learns to correct his mistakes or leaves office.
“Feedback on Merz's wrong decisions will continue to escalate until he learns to correct his mistakes or is no longer in power,” Dmitriev wrote on social media platform X, commenting on the withdrawal of US military personnel from Germany.
Earlier, the Pentagon announced it would pull 5,000 troops out of Germany within six to twelve months. US President Donald Trump previously said Washington was considering reducing the number of troops stationed in Germany, Italy, and Spain.
The US leader did not explain the reason for the move, but the announcement came after Merz criticized Washington's war against Iran, arguing that it lacked a clear strategy. On Tuesday, Trump accused Merz of “allegedly considering Iran's possession of nuclear weapons as acceptable.”
