Iran's special envoy for the Persian Gulf, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in an exclusive interview rejected accusations by the United Kingdom regarding the recent incident in the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that Iran acted based on international law and maritime security regulations.
According to him, the British statements aim to distort the facts and escalate tensions in the region. “We do not accept the fictional stories that Britain is spreading,” he said, while calling on relevant parties to resolve the dispute through diplomatic dialogue.
The incident occurred when Iranian forces temporarily detained a British-flagged oil tanker, leading to tensions between Tehran and London. While Britain accused Iran of violating international law, Iran insisted the vessel had breached maritime safety rules within its waters.
The Iranian envoy also warned that any British military action in the Persian Gulf region could complicate the situation further instead of helping resolve the issue. He proposed that both sides resume direct negotiations to restore trust and stability in the Gulf.
