A former senior US official says Iran will permanently control the Strait of Hormuz, regardless of any peace deal with Washington. Amos Hochstein advised Gulf states to build new pipelines to bypass the Iranian-held chokepoint.

Iran will control the Strait of Hormuz 'forever,' regardless of any peace agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic, according to a former senior US official, who warned that Gulf states must build new pipelines to cope with the situation.
The remarks were made by Amos Hochstein, a former energy and Middle East adviser under President Joe Biden, in an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday. 'The Strait of Hormuz is under Iranian control forever – essentially for the foreseeable future,' he said.
Asked about negotiations between the Trump administration and Iran aimed at ending the war launched by the US and Israel against the Islamic Republic, Hochstein stressed: 'No one in the market should look at the final agreement and feel secure about the strait. Iran will control the strait.'
