Shinnosuke Abe, the former manager of the Yomiuri Giants baseball team, will not be indicted in connection with allegations that he assaulted his daughter, prosecutors said Monday.
According to Kyodo News, the case came to light after several sources reported that Abe had engaged in violent conduct toward his daughter. However, following an investigation, prosecutors decided not to pursue charges.
The decision was reached after reviewing evidence and testimony from all parties. Abe, 47, was the head manager of the Yomiuri Giants, one of Japan's most storied baseball franchises. He resigned in October 2024 after the team finished the season without a championship.
Though the assault allegations had stirred public attention, prosecutors' decision effectively closes the matter. Abe's attorneys welcomed the ruling, stating it affirms their client's innocence.
Abe has not yet issued a public statement. The Yomiuri Giants also declined to comment, citing the personal nature of the matter.
