Conor McGregor has laid out a long-term plan, seeking a rematch with Max Holloway after his recent loss, in a final fight under his contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
In an Instagram post related to the UFC’s International Fight Week this July, McGregor wrote on Monday: “What was supposed to be a generational blow has now been reset. IFW 2027. The final dance.”
If McGregor faces Holloway again, it would be the third meeting between the two.
In a welterweight bout at UFC 329 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 11, Holloway (28-9) won by technical knockout after just 69 seconds, following an early kick that injured McGregor’s right knee.
The two fighters also clashed in August 2013, with McGregor winning by unanimous decision.
McGregor, 38, requires surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, explaining the long wait for the rematch.
Although the Irish fighter recently posted an Instagram video showing him doing leg exercises, UFC President Dana White said on Sunday of McGregor: “Conor McGregor will be out for a year.”
The July 11 fight was McGregor’s first appearance in the octagon in five years, since a technical knockout loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in Las Vegas. McGregor has lost three consecutive fights and four of his last five.
Holloway, 34, from Honolulu, lost a unanimous decision to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March in Las Vegas before returning to defeat McGregor.
