Conor McGregor, one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts (MMA), will officially make his comeback on July 11 in Las Vegas, USA. His opponent is Max Holloway, a former featherweight champion, in the main event of UFC 329.
UFC CEO Dana White announced the fight on Saturday, confirming it will be at welterweight and not a title bout. This will be a rematch from their first encounter in the featherweight division in August 2013, which McGregor won by decision after three rounds despite tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
McGregor (37, 22-6) last fought on July 10, 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier by TKO after breaking his leg in the final second of the first round. Earlier, a planned rematch against Michael Chandler in June 2024 was canceled due to a toe injury.
In 2016, McGregor made UFC history by becoming the first fighter to hold two championship belts simultaneously: the featherweight title (defeating Jose Aldo in December 2015) and the lightweight title (defeating Eddie Alvarez in November 2016). However, he has won only one of his last four bouts.
His opponent, Max Holloway (34, 27-9), is a former featherweight champion who has beaten Justin Gaethje, Jose Aldo (twice), Dustin Poirier, and Frankie Edgar. Since moving up to lightweight in 2025, the Hawaiian fighter has a 1-1 record, losing to Charles Oliveira by five-round decision last March.
