The construction and restoration project of the Shams Tabrizi mausoleum in Khoy, West Azerbaijan Province (Iran), is entering its final completion phase. This monument commemorates the famed 13th-century poet and Islamic mystic, whose profound influence shaped the thought of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi — one of the greatest Sufi poets of all time.
According to local officials, most major components, including overall architecture, garden landscaping, and auxiliary infrastructure, have been completed. Currently, workers and artisans are focusing on interior decoration, artistic details, and lighting systems to soon open the site to the public.
The Shams Tabrizi mausoleum is regarded as a cultural and spiritual icon of Khoy, where the poet spent his final years. Its completion will not only meet the pilgrimage needs of locals and visitors but also help promote Persian-Islamic literary heritage worldwide.
The project has been implemented with the collaboration of the West Azerbaijan provincial government and cultural-religious organizations, drawing special attention from Oriental culture researchers. Once finished, the complex is expected to host cultural events, thematic seminars, and serve as a stop on various spiritual tourism routes in the region.
