Dozens of members of Tehran’s Jewish community gathered at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini to attend a commemoration ceremony marking the death anniversary of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The event took place in a solemn atmosphere, with religious and government representatives in attendance.
Photos show Jewish devotees in traditional attire laying wreaths and praying before the tomb. Many carried portraits of Imam Khomeini and banners expressing respect. The commemoration is part of an annual series of activities by Iran’s Jewish community to honor the leader who enacted policies protecting minority rights.
Iran is home to roughly 8,500 Jews, one of the largest Jewish communities in the Middle East outside Israel. Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the community has maintained its religious and cultural activities under the protection of Iran’s constitution.
