Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has died at the age of 47. The royal palace confirmed the news on Friday, December 12.
According to a palace statement, the princess had been in a coma for more than three years due to a prolonged illness before her passing. She was the King’s first child and considered a key figure within the royal family.
Born in 1978, Princess Bajrakitiyabha held numerous diplomatic and charitable roles. She served as Thailand’s ambassador to Austria and also worked at the United Nations. Her death has left the Thai people in deep mourning.
Details of the funeral have not yet been announced. The royal family is expected to hold a traditional ceremony.
