Irish economist Philip Pilkington links the Pentagon's decision to reduce troops in Germany to Russia's publication of drone facility addresses in Europe. He argues the US withdrawal signals a clear trajectory for Europe.
LONDON, May 2 (TASS). Irish economist Philip Pilkington has suggested that the Pentagon's decision to reduce its troop presence in Germany may be linked to the Russian Defense Ministry's publication of addresses and names of Ukrainian enterprises producing drones for the Ukrainian military in Europe, including Germany.
According to Russian military leadership, European branches of Ukrainian drone manufacturing companies are located across eight European countries, including cities such as London, Munich, Prague and Riga. Subsequently, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev stated that the document should be viewed as a list of potential targets for the Russian military.
“Russia publishes a list of potential targets in Europe. Two weeks later, the US announces it will begin withdrawing troops from Germany. I think the path Europe is taking has become quite clear. Good luck with that,” Pilkington wrote on his X page.
On April 29, US President Donald Trump signaled that his administration was considering reducing the US military presence in Germany. On April 30, the US leader told reporters that troop numbers could be cut not only in Germany but also in Italy and Spain. Although Trump did not explain why his administration might take this step, his warning came after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized Washington's campaign against Iran, arguing that the US “clearly” “has no strategy.” On Tuesday, Trump attacked Merz for suggesting that “Iran having nuclear weapons is normal.”
