Chinese President Xi Jinping will make state visits to Kyrgyzstan and Egypt from August 30 to September 3, including attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, according to China's Foreign Ministry.
At the SCO summit, which will include member states such as Russia and Iran, Xi will discuss strengthening cooperation as well as major international and regional issues, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press briefing on Wednesday.
The Chinese president will also hold talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Sadyr Japarov, and attend other state events during the trip.
In Egypt, Xi will meet President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for talks aimed at "making positive contributions to safeguarding peace and stability in the region," Lin Jian said.
The state visit, Xi's first to Egypt in 10 years, "holds special significance for the development of bilateral relations," Lin added.
The trip comes amid ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States that has spread across the Middle East, cutting off shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz and disrupting global oil flows.
China has significant economic ties with the Middle East, which was its largest source of crude oil imports before the war.
This is Xi's second foreign trip this year, following his visit to North Korea in June.
