Pakistan Senate President Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani on May 28 extended congratulations to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on his re-election as Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.
In his message, Sanjrani expressed confidence that under Ghalibaf's leadership, cooperative ties between Iran's parliament and Pakistan's Senate would continue to strengthen and develop. The Pakistani Senate leader also stressed the importance of enhancing parliamentary exchanges between the two nations to promote mutual interests and understanding.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, former mayor of Tehran, secured re-election as Iran's parliament speaker during a vote on May 28. He received 242 votes in favor out of the assembly's 290 seats. This marks Ghalibaf's second consecutive term in the position.
Iranian lawmakers also elected Mojtaba Zonnour and Ahmad Naderi as first and second deputy speakers of parliament. Three observer positions were also filled according to regulations.
Relations between Iran and Pakistan have witnessed significant progress in recent years, particularly in economic and security sectors. The re-election of Iran's parliamentary leadership is expected to provide fresh impetus for bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
