According to Chinese state media, during the summit held on Tuesday (June 3), Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to continue developing the traditional friendly relations between their two countries. Reports from North Korea about the talks also made no mention of Pyongyang's nuclear issue.
The meeting took place amid strengthened China-North Korea relations, aiming to promote bilateral cooperation in economic, trade, and security fields. However, notably, the key issue regarding North Korea's missile and nuclear program was completely absent from the official statements following the meeting.
Analysts suggest that the omission of the nuclear issue could indicate that Beijing and Pyongyang are focusing on less contentious areas of cooperation, or seeking to avoid disturbing the positive atmosphere of the summit. Meanwhile, the international community continues to closely monitor North Korea's next steps concerning its weapons of mass destruction program.
