Xi Jinping Visits Egypt as China Seeks to Expand Influence in the Middle East

Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Egypt this week, though framed as a routine occasion for the two countries to advance economic and diplomatic relations, carries deeper strategic significance as Beijing seeks to bolster its presence in the Middle East.

The move comes as China increasingly emphasizes its role as a mediator in regional affairs, from diplomatic reconciliation to energy cooperation and infrastructure investment. Xi's choice of Egypt as a stopover underscores Cairo's importance as a gateway for Beijing to access African and Middle Eastern markets.

Analysts note that the visit is not only focused on bilateral agreements but also serves as an opportunity for China to affirm its status as a responsible power ready to engage in addressing shared regional challenges, amid intensifying geopolitical competition.
