On January 2, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met with his Iraqi counterpart Mahmoud al-Mashhadani in Tehran, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency.
Speaking at the meeting, Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran and Iraq have vast potential to create unique cooperation opportunities, particularly in the economic, trade, energy, and security sectors. He noted that enhancing parliamentary relations between the two nations would contribute to advancing bilateral cooperation across multiple fields.
For his part, the Iraqi Parliament Speaker agreed with Ghalibaf's views, stressing the importance of expanding cooperative ties between the two neighboring countries. Al-Mashhadani also proposed increasing high-level delegation exchanges between the two parliaments to foster mutual understanding and address shared challenges.
The two sides also discussed regional issues, including the security situation in the Middle East and coordinated measures to ensure stability and peace in the region.
