A house fire in the Russian settlement of Vysoky, Khanty-Mansiysk region, killed seven people, including four children. The blaze was reported early May 2 and quickly spread due to the home's remote location. Authorities are investigating possible causes including electrical failure.
Yugra Governor Ruslan Kukharuk confirmed the fire broke out in a private home in the settlement of Vysoky, located in Russia's Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (HMAD), killing seven people, four of them children.
The blaze was reported early on May 2. Firefighting crews were dispatched to the scene, but due to the home's remote location, the fire spread rapidly before being brought under control.
Governor Kukharuk extended his deepest condolences to the victims' families and said authorities are investigating the cause. Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit or negligence in use of heating equipment during the cold season.
Statistics show that residential fires in Russia's remote areas often result from poor infrastructure and lack of fire alarm systems. This incident has once again raised alarms about fire safety in rural communities.
